Protocol and Guide for Posting to  TOURNET  

Objectives and Topics

• Disseminate information related to the Tourism Industry in KwaZulu-Natal. 
• This would include information on the legal requirements within the Industry 
  • vehicle requirements, tour guiding, permits, SATOUR
  • safety issues.
• Publish information related to staff education and industry functions. 
  • Notice of lectures, trade tours, courses and industry shows.
  • Educationals
   
• Advice, tips and questions related to administration and marketing. This would include insurance matters, the scheduled arrival of cruise liners, big events and relevant contact details.
• Miscellaneous Issues will cover:
  • New products on the market, venues, equipment.
  • Special motor vehicle service deals.
  • Brochure specials.
  • Computer advice.
  • Support group information - e.g. Save St. Lucia,

Etiquette and Group Rules

Attachments

Please avoid attachments going to the whole list - it wastes bandwidth and waiting for the lengthy downloads is both frustrating and costly to many members. A lot of people would also hesitate to open and read documents for the very valid fear of word processor embedded viruses (such as the MS-Word Macro virus) in documents sent as attachments. Also remember that many members would not have the software to open proprietary format attachments.

If you need people to see an image then get it put up on a web page and publish the URL in a posting to the group. Alternatively, if you don't have web publishing access, then send a short message to the list describing what the image shows, its format and size, and ask interested people to send you an e-mail requesting that the image be sent to them.

Format

Use standard Mime or ASCII format, and not HTML format. Certain e-mail clients can only read plain text messages and it is frustrating for serious e-mail users, who typically would not read e-mail with a browser, to have to load a browser to simply to speed scan your message.

This means that members who are using web browsers to compose and originate their e-mail should ensure that they send plain text messages and not HTML attachments. Most web browsers default to send in HTML format so check your set-up.

Advertising

Only Non-Profit Advertising is allowed. NO commercial advertising on TourNet please.

SpaceNet is the forum where one is able to advertise ones products.

Subject Line

Use your subject line don't leave it blank. Try and give relevant information that will help people with large e-mail loads to know if the message is potentially important for them.

Spam
Virus Warnings, Chain letters and Sympathy requests are not to be posted on TourNet.
