ENQUIRIES
AND RESERVATIONS
Day One – Johannesburg – Sabi Sand (L, D)
Today you will fly from the Johannesburg International Airport directly into the Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve, arriving in time for your afternoon/evening game drive. You will overnight at one of our five preferred lodges in the reserve, these being Exeter’s Dulini, Leadwood and River Lodges, all situated in the western sector of the Sabi Sand, together with Mala Mala in the central sector and Chitwa Chitwa in the northern sector.
Day Two, Three – Sabi Sand (B, L, D)
The next three days will be spent in following the individual lodges’ programme. Although this may differ slightly from lodge to lodge, the programme is usually this: You are woken early (this depends on time of year), and offered some light refreshment, (tea/coffee/juice and something light to eat) before embarking on the morning game drive. Midway through the drive some more light refreshment is again offered, and at the conclusion of the morning drive you return to the lodge for breakfast. After breakfast you usually have a choice of going on a walk with an armed ranger or relaxing at the pool, reading or whatever.
Lunch is then offered and again in the afternoon tea/coffee/juice and cake is enjoyed before commencing the afternoon/evening drive. Midway through this drive a sundowner stop is made to enjoy some drinks and snacks, before continuing on the drive, the latter being with the aid of a spotlight to pick up on the nocturnal species. Then its back to the lodge to enjoy dinner and drinks before retiring for some well earned sleep.
The accommodation is of a 5-star standard and all meals that are offered are of top quality.
Day Four – Swaziland (B, L, D)
After this morning’s game drive and breakfast you will be collected by your guide and make your way to the tiny country of Swaziland where we visit the Ngwenya Glass Factory before making our way to Reilly’s Rock (or similar). Situated in the Mliliwane Game Reserve, Reilly’s Rock’s unique Hilltop Lodge has been tastefully decorated in keeping with its colonial roots by Swaziland's leading conservation team, Ted and Liz Reilly. Notwithstanding the necessary subtle additions and renovations, the house still stands as it was built almost a century ago. Mliliwane Game Reserve is Swaziland's pioneer conservation area and is situated in a beautiful, secluded sanctuary in Swaziland's Valley of Heaven, the Ezulwini Valley, an area between the two cities of Mbabane and Manzini.
Day Five, Six – Thonga Beach Lodge (B, L, D)
After breakfast we make our way to the Thonga Beach Lodge in S.A’s. KwaZulu Natal province. Here we will spend two nights in this stunning beach destination where the activities include scuba diving, canoeing on Lake Sibaya, sundowner boat cruises on Lake Sibaya, turtle tracking in season, swimming, snorkelling, fishing, a cultural experience and an ‘open ocean experience’. This latter is an exciting launch from the beach in front of the lodge and through the breakers to experience the sea mammals found here. The open ocean experience, scuba diving and turtle tracking activities are for your own account.
Day Seven, Eight – Phinda Private Game Reserve (B, L, D)
After breakfast we make our way through rural Zululand to the Phinda Reserve where we spend the last two nights. The game drive programme here is similar to that of the Sabi Sand. What Phinda does offer on one of the game drives is a boat cruise on the Mzinene River that flows through the reserve. This trip is included and well worth the times pent. However, there is another added option; the ‘Flight of the Fish Eagle’. This activity, for your own account, is a flight from Phinda along the Maputaland Coast to the Kosi Lake system, out over the Indian Ocean, hopefully to spot whale sharks, and then returning over Lake St. Lucia, viewing hippos on the way back.
Day Nine – Durban (Breakfast, Lunch)
After our morning’s activity we make our way back to Durban. Should time allow we can visit a diamond outlet to learn more about the industry of these precocious gems and their different cuts, facets, etc. You will then be dropped off at your overnight accommodation or at the Durban airport.
