4-Day Luxury Safari:  Johannesburg – Sabi Sands – Johannesburg.

On this tour the emphasis is on 5-star comfort and luxury, coupled with arguably the finest game viewing, particularly of the big predators, but certainly all of the other “Big 5” as well, in the world renowned Sabi Sands Game Reserve, which shares a common 50 km unfenced boundary with the Kruger National Park to the east. Two perennial rivers, the Sabi and the Sand River, flow through this game park, sustaining the diverse fauna and flora of the area, which enjoys one of the highest and most bio-diverse wildlife populations of any area in Africa. Such is the integrity of the environment that there is consistently a year round population of animals that remain within the area. There is migration between this, the Sabi Sands Game Reserve and the Kruger National Park, ensuring genetic diversity with an integrated biodiversity within the entire 2, 7 million hectare protected area.
The Sabi Sands Game Reserve dates back to the 1950's when the landowners initiated the dropping of the internal fences and the sharing of a common environmental management programme. A Warden who reports to the Park Management Committee now administers this association. Prior to this, there were a number of landowner pioneers in the 1920' and 1930's who initiated the conservation of the area's wildlife.
Due to considerate game viewing practises where clients remain within the 'profile' of the open vehicles and the animals have priority, the trackers and game rangers of the various Lodges are able to offer exceptional game viewing of all the general game species, as well as the high profile animals. The success of viewing leopard within this area is legendary and allowing sufficient time in this area, such animals as elephant, lion, rhino, leopard, buffalo, cheetah, giraffe, zebra and a vast variety of antelope and other species, may be closely observed within their own ranges. The rangers are also aware of photographers’ requirements, and will attempt to get the best vehicle position possible under the circumstances, making it an ideal destination for serious photographers and all those interested in wildlife and nature. This greater area is home to 336 tree, 49 fish, 34 amphibian, 114 reptile, 507 bird and 147 mammal species.

This itinerary is:
Day One – Johannesburg – Sabi Sand                                                                    
Today you will fly from the Johannesburg International Airport directly into the Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve, arriving in time for your afternoon/evening game drive. You will overnight at one of our five preferred lodges in the reserve, these being Exeter’s Dulini, Leadwood and River Lodges, all situated in the western sector of the Sabi Sand, together with Mala Mala in the central sector and Chitwa Chitwa in the northern sector.

Day Two, Three, Four – Sabi Sand
The next three days will be spent in following the individual lodges’ programme. Although this may differ slightly from lodge to lodge, the programme is usually this: You are woken early (this depends on time of year), and offered some light refreshment, (tea/coffee/juice and something light to eat) before embarking on the morning game drive. Midway through the drive some more light refreshment is again offered, and at the conclusion of the morning drive you return to the lodge for breakfast. After breakfast you usually have a choice of going on a walk with an armed ranger or relaxing at the pool, reading or whatever.
Lunch is then offered and again in the afternoon tea/coffee/juice and cake is enjoyed before commencing the afternoon/evening drive. Midway through this drive a sundowner stop is made to enjoy some drinks and snacks, before continuing on the drive, the latter being with the aid of a spotlight to pick up on the nocturnal species. Then its back to the lodge to enjoy dinner and drinks before retiring for some well earned sleep.
The accommodation is of a 5-star standard and all meals that are offered are of top quality.

Day Five                                                                                                                   
After this morning’s game drive and breakfast you will be transferred to the airstrip for your return flight to Johannesburg.
