AmaKhosi, translated from Zulu means "The Place of the Kings" and offers attentive service and absolute luxury in the dramatic surroundings of Zululand that bear testimony with the renowned Mkuze River. Boasting 12 000 hectares, the Amazulu Private Game Reserve is made up of a varied ecosystem. This diversity includes savannah, mountains and wetlands which makes it the ideal home to the "Big Five" as well as giraffe, warthog and hyena not to mention over 15 different antelope species, hippopotamus and crocodile. The local Zulu community is an important anchor for AmaKhosi and its staff members as it has provided the inspiration behind the design and dÈcor of the lodge. In keeping with the tradition, the staff members, who are mostly Zulu, have helped build a traditional Zulu Kraal as part of the lodge and, in keeping with the African style, offer Zulu dancers as entertainment to guests. Activities Early morning and late afternoon guided walks and game drives lead you into the African bush to observe the animals and their fascinating behaviour. The abundance of flora and fauna always reveal something interesting, both on the ground and in the air. Qualified game rangers introduce the unique role each animal plays on the massive stage within the African Kingdom. For those who prefer to relax at camp, there is a library, swimming pool, game viewing deck and an outdoor lounge overlooking the flowing Mkuze River. The River Suites At the heart of AmaKhosi Lodge is the most luxurious blend of river frontage. Riverbanks are home to the main lodge with the magnificent regal River Suites offering special views of the flowing Mkuze River. Each suite boasts separate air-conditioned bedroom and lounge with fully stocked mini bar and tea/coffee facilities. How to get there From Johannesburg [5 hours] exit from Johannesburg on the Witbank N4 take the Middelburg exit to Hendrina continue towards Ermelo on the N11 continue towards Piet Retief on the N2 stay on the N2 North until you reach Pongola From Durban [4.5 hours] exit from Durban to Stanger on the N2 North staying on the N2 North, continue past Empangeni to Pongola From Pongola [0.5 hours] turn down the R66 to Nongoma continue for ± 22 km past Magudu sign on your left turn right at the R69 towards Vryheid continue for 2 km & turn left down gravel road. follow the AmaKhosi Lodge signs
