Accommodation
with authentic buffalo dung walls, Camp Shawu paints a picture
of the 'real Africa' described by famous explorers of colonial
times. Private decks overlooking the hippo filled Mpanamana Dam
and beyond, present a masterpiece of an African landscape, weaved
into which include many stories from a rich cultural heritage.
With an emphasis on walking trails, guests can experience a typical
old-fashioned safari first-hand. When early mornings were fresh
with the smell of a new day, and a sunset was reminiscent of days
gone by.
Location:
- The camp is situated in a 15,000ha private concession in the
south-eastern section of the world-renowned Kruger National Park.
The borders of the concession area are the perennial Crocodile
River to the south and Mozambique in the east.
Access:
- Camp Shawu is best accessed by road through the Crocodile Bridge
Gate (approximately 14 km). Air access is to one of the following
airports in the area: Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport
(KMIA) - 110 Km; Maputo Airport (Mozambique) - 125 km; Malelane
Airport - 70 km.
Accommodation:
- The camp can accommodate 10 guests in 5 individual chalets,
all luxuriously equipped with en-suite bathrooms, mini bar, outside
shower, ceiling fans, and timber deck.
Facilities:
- The central facility consists of a lounge, indoor and outdoor
dining area and a splash pool.
Activities: - The wide variety of nature based activities
at the camp include morning and afternoon wildlife safari game
drives on the 15,000ha private concession and informative game
walks.
Unique
Features: - The camp enjoys exclusive traversing over 15,000ha
of the finest game viewing terrain in the Kruger National Park.
The Mpanamana Dam is the diurnal retreat of a family of Hippo
and the water regularly visited by a vast array of wildlife coming
to slake their thirst.
Child policy:
- Camp Shawu welcomes children of all ages and childcare is available
on request. Children under 6 years are unfortunately not allowed
on game drives and children under the age of 12 are not permitted
on game walks. Please note that every precaution will be taken
to provide for your safety and that of your children throughout
your stay, guests are however asked to acknowledge the potential
danger of being in a wildlife area.
Communication:
- The camp has radio contact with the main lodge only. Limited
cellular phone network connectivity.
Power Supply:
- The camp is powered by a generator and battery system and power
points are available in the rooms for chargers, electrical shavers
and hairdryers.
