Info: KZNTGA Provincial Committee meeting Tuesday, November 03 @ Pacific Standard Time by dean (358 reads) | Good afternoon, fellow Guides.
Many thanks for the input that we received prior to the last KZNTGA Provincial Committee meeting. The two representatives of Ezemvelo/KwaZulu-Natal Wildlife (Mr Gladman Buthelezi and Mr Ian Porter) were especially appreciative of the questions that were submitted and felt they were so useful that instead of waiting for a Provincial Committee Meeting to take place, such queries / criticism / suggestions etc should be submitted to them whenever they are received. You are welcome to use my e-mail address as a conduit.

Info: Electricity Dispruptions Monday, July 09 @ Pacific Daylight Time by dean (1094 reads) | Anonymous writes "Although Underberg and the Drakensberg Resorts had promenant coverage due to lack of basic services during recent snow falls, they alone were not the only one's who suffered in KZN from the sheer imcompency displayed by the Goverment and Patatstatals involved but the media as well.
Although the main R617 between Underberg and Kokstad had not even began to be cleared until after 11am on the Thursday morning (that after the driver managed to put the grader into a ditch first), all radio station including the AA were giving out information that this road was clear and open. Causing chaos. Numerious attempts were made to rectify this dis-information to no avail. SOME ONE had told them the road was open and that was that. Who are we, local yokals to know better. The road was in fact only opened at 3.30pm that day after the grader had pushed a three meter high wall of snow in front of it and backacters and trailers were needed to cart the stuff away. Then it froze over. As for the roads department, they did not even bother to put up road closed signs, that was left to locals to do. As for clearing rural roads to let milk tankers and other esencially vehicles through, I guess they do not exsist on thier maps. As for ESCOM. One can understand that there are power outages in extreme conditions, but this time they excelled in there inablitly to restore the power in the farming and deep rural communities. By Thursday Dairy farmers who had insufficent private power to run both daries and baulk tanks were rushing to PMB to purchase additional equipment. Where tankers where delayed in reaching farms the farmers had no choice but to throw away hard earned produce. It was onl;y after a week some places received power, which did not go on and off every few hours. If ESCOM, the Roads Department and the Media are unable to get the facts and the work done during a minor crisis in a small part of SA, this does not brode well for any major crisis that may occur.
Travelers, between Kokstad and Underberg and vis versa there is a pass called kingscote. This is where the heaviest snow falls ALWAYS. If you are in any doubt about using this road and are unable to contact the Evatt Police Station at the top of Kingscote 039-7474-302, please phone 039-747-9077/9055 or 082 809 9720. "
