Cape West Coast Fossil Park - Langebaanweg
One of the World's richest late Tertiary vertebrate fossil sites. Today the south western coastal region of the Cape is dry and windswept, with stunted vegetation. There is poor diversity of animal life here. This, in great contrast to that biome of some 20 million years ago. The extremely rich fossil sediments fairly recently discovered, prove a past where there must have been a far higher precipitation, lush vegetation and a great diversity of animal life.

Karoo Fossils
Sedimintation in the Great Karoo for example, dates back 251 million years to the period of mass extinction succeeding the Permian period into the early Jurassic. Here too lie rich remnants - fossils of plants, insects and mammal-like reptiles, the dicynodonts - our History

Palaeontology
The study of past life from the fossilised remains of a previous ecosystem. South Africa is rich in this legacy of the past. Here we have a fascinating record of our Earth in a country with magnificent examples of the wonders of Nature. The geomorphology of the region is incredibly diverse with magnificent rock formations on the Earth's surface dating back hundreds of millions of years.
